bisexuals are not being homophobic/lesbophobic when they tell you that it’s bi erasure to call canonically bi characters gay/lesbian
bisexuals are not being homophobic/lesbophobic when they take issue with you coming onto their posts talking about canonically bi characters with some “umm no sweaty they’re gay :)” bullshit
bisexuals are not being homophobic/lesbophobic when they call gays and lesbians out on their bi erasure and biphobia
hey you know what’s cool? not only is love, simon coming out this year, but so are some other movies about young lgbtq+ people, including black, lesbian, and gender nonconforming lead characters:
- the miseducation of cameron post, based on the ya novel of the same name, which tells the coming-of-age story of a teenage lesbian in the 90s as she faces religious homophobia at a conversion camp. the movie is directed by desiree akhavan, a bisexual iranian woman, and the author of the book the movie is based off of is a lesbian. it also won the grand jury prize at sundance (!) but hasn’t been picked up for distribution (:/).
- hearts beat loud, a super nice sounding movie about a father and daughter pair who form a band the year before she leaves for college. according to reviews, the daughter has a super sweet romance with another girl and the whole movie is generally feel-good. also, both the daughter and her love interest are played by black actresses who are both openly not straight in real life!
- saturday church, which is about a young black boy who, while questioning his gender/sexuality and dealing with the death of his father and conservative family, finds support in the local lgbtq community. did i mention it’s also a musical?
Something about Love, Simon that I loved was the scene where his sister talked to him about the post. She acts like it’s something that he can deny and he says, “Why would I do that? I’m not ashamed of it.” And…. that really hit me. As a closeted member of the LGBT+ community, I see so much about how closeted people aren’t “brave” and how they’re “ashamed” of their sexuality so THAT’S why they won’t come out. But the whole point of this movie (and the book) is to show that being closeted isn’t about being ashamed of who you are, it’s about being comfortable with where and who you are. Simon says he didn’t want to come out before because he didn’t want people’s view of him to change, not because he was ashamed. I can’t stress enough how important that message is.
There’s a website where you can learn ASL (American Sign Language) on your own, free and it’s a 31 Day program! The woman on there, her name is Rochelle Barlow, she runs the site and she actually is a homeschool teacher and teaches ASL. I am passing this on to some of you guys cause most of y’all on here is open-minded and curious and it is something important to learn.
I truly believe this site is helpful for some people who can not afford to going to ASL classes, or someone like me that just enjoys learning something new. This site will help with that. Once you sign up you will put in your email address and Rochelle sends you emails on tips on how to sign, gives you practice sheets, and gives you your weekly videos. And its all online. No need to paying for anything. (Unless if you want to she has something very different to this program)
IMO and yes, this site is really amazing and is important because you never know if someone who is deaf or HOH needs help, if you end up losing your hearing ability this is something you will at least have on the back of your head, and it is just like any other language and should be taught.
So I dunno how many people know this but if you go to burgerking and order anything at all off the menu, even just a drink, you get two little surveys on the back of the receipt
Each survey can get you a free whopper burger or a chicken sandwich with the purchase of any drink (even the $1 drink)
Just fill out the survey and get the code and write it on the back.
If you are short on money and really need a substantial meal, you can keep doing this cycle of getting receipts and free sandwiches for as long as you like
Idk I thought this might help people who are hard up for cash. This works in the US.
reblog 2 save a hungry tummy maybe?
these surveys actually saved me as a child growing up with a neglectful, mentally ill mother. shout out 2 every hood burger king
can we please take a moment to reflect that love simon, a gay rom com, a wrinkle in time, a movie with a young black female lead, and black panther, the first major black superhero film, are all going to be out at the same time?
it’s amazing how straight people think teens don’t need a movie like love, simon when the director who is married and has been out for 20+ years cried when he saw the final movie because even he needed this movie. his husband also cried, countless lgbt teens have cried. one of the main actors came out because of this movie. many of the actors have friends that came out because of this movie, nick’s little brother came out to him after he found out he was doing this movie. i do not want to hear another straight person talk about this movie because frankly y’all will never understand what coming out is. so like shut the fuck up and let us cry and laugh our hearts out with a movie that loves and supports all of us. and that knows coming out will never be easy or a once in a life experience.
Shout out to all the teens and kids who walked out of school today. It’s never easy to fight for something new, and have so many people screaming about how you don’t know anything or that you are brainwashed.
Here’s to the kids who have an opinion.
Here’s to the kids that are taking a chance.
Here’s to the kids that are changing the country, one step at a time.
